As many of you know, I’ve been a strong advocate for the Buy Local and Shop Local movement. With Christmas having just passed, I have to ask, what specific gift did you receive that is most memorable? Was it homemade, hand-made, custom ordered, special ordered or fairly unique (i.e., something most likely not “Made In China”)? Why? Because those types of gifts will probably be kept, used, remembered, treasured and talked about for years to come. And, except for cookies from Grandma, many gifts fitting into this category will have come from a local retailer who specializes in offering items not found at the closest drive-thru pharmacy.
Thus, when you Shop Local with small business, they normally offer comfortable, relaxing environments in community settings where owners know your name, anticipate your needs, go out of their way to help you in any way they can, and many times know a bit about you to customize your experience.
When was the last time a big box retailer made you feel special?
Next time you need a locally roasted coffee, a hostess gift, or a specialty item for a loved one, why not Shop Local and make a difference? Your community will thank you.
