Recently, thanks to a networking meeting with Dustin Zick, and my creative use of utilizing social media channels, I was lucky enough to spend some time getting to know Richard Koenings, owner of the new Red Elephant Chocolate opening today in the Third Ward in Milwaukee.
Though I learned a considerable amount about his vision for owning a chocolate cafe’, what varieties of chocolates would be sold in the store, and the eventual expansion plans for the specialty items he would like to have available, I actually learned significantly more in the process of getting to know him and his business.
Many who have spoken to me in person know that I am an ardent promoter of local, small businesses and the people who run them. Getting to know the owner responsible for putting their heart and soul into their business means you get an inside glimpse as to what they are passionate about and what drives them to tackle each day successfully.
Meeting Richard was no exception. Here is a entrepreneur dedicated to producing high quality chocolate items in a unique customer environment worth experiencing. With an ideal location, an aesthetically pleasing store, and exceptional chocolates, customers will want to return again and again.
Last week, after meeting Richard at his office, I took his chocolates to the streets and introduced them to Social Media Club Milwaukee during their monthly meeting. I hoped it would be perfect timing to generate a bit of buzz for his new store prior to its opening. Based on the resulting social media traffic and enthusiasm from the group and others, my mission was accomplished!
Afterward, upon reflecting on the whole experience, it reminded me how important it is to help others. Giving your time and talent to those in need are one of the best ways you can enrich your own life.
With that said, who have you helped today? What ways are you making a difference in your community? Don’t wait for someone else to have to ask. Get out there and step up and lend a hand. Your efforts will be appreciated. By others, as well as yourself.
